I remember the way my professor
spoke of Thoreau as a spoiled rich kid
she even said he was a hypocrite
when twenty years later, a professor
myself, I speed-read his essay again.
Now I will judge for myself what he wrote
was it frivolous and vain antidote
to lethargy, privilege, and arrogance?
So I download it for free from Google
and I comb through it for the evidence.
--If nonviolent resistance to unjust
conditions is luxury of thought, gosh...
then isn't this poem that's nearly finished
an expensive and rare golden sonnet?
This Sonnet is a Fictional Work. Any perceived, apparent, or implied relationship to entities or persons is coincidental.
